Hayes sets school record at Terrier Invite

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Kristen Hayes's (Menands, N.Y.) school-record performance in the 500 highlighted a strong weekend of competition for the Bryant University track and field teams at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational.

With Hayes's school record, the Bulldogs have now set a school record in each of their first three meets of 2014. Hayes broke the school record in the 500 with a time of 1:17.94 and earned a 16th-place finish. The previous record of 1:19.09 was set in 2007 by Stephanie Montagno.

The Bulldogs also received personal-record performances from Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.), Brian Sullivan (Hingham, Mass.), Christopher Chapruet (Danvers, Mass.), Francis Foley (Acton, Mass.) and Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.). Tomasetti finished 38th in the 800 with a time of 2:18.36, Sullivan was 18th in the weight throw (15.14m), Chapruet finished with a time of 8:55.59 in the 3000 and Foley (4:23.94) and Landry (4:26.62) both set PR's in the mile.

With just one week remaining until the Northeast Conference championships, the Bulldogs will get more final tuneup this weekend at the Torpey Invitational at URI.
