Bulldogs wrap up competition at NECs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Led by finals appearances from junior Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) and sophomore Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.), the Bryant University track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Northeast Conference championships on Sunday in Landover, Md.

The Bulldog men and women both finished ninth in the team standings with 16 and 17 points, respectively. LIU Brooklyn claimed the men's title with 125 points and Sacred Heart won the women's championship with 136 points.

After qualifying on Saturday, Tomasetti and Hayes both earned points on Sunday. Tomasetti finished seventh in the 800m with a time of 2:22.35 and Hayes finished seventh in the 500m with a time of 1:19.29.

The men received outstanding performances as well. Francis Foley (Acton, Mass.) qualified for the finals on Saturday and then ran to an eighth-place finish in the mile run with a time of 4:26.90. Hayes Watson (Glastonbury, Conn.) and John Somers (Wallingford, Conn.) were both great in the pole vault. Watson finished fifth with a height of 4.20m and Somers placed eighth with a height of 4.10m.

Bryant will now prepare for postseason competition with the New England championships, NEICAAA championships and ECACs in the coming weeks.
