Dempsey breaks 20-year old school record Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Nicole Dempsey (Norwell, Mass.) shattered a 20-year old school record to highlight an outstanding performance for the Bryant University track and field teams at the Providence College Friar Invitational on Saturday.

The Bulldogs fell to both Stony Brook and Providence but enjoyed a day of personal records and strong performances.

The school-record holder in the indoor long jump, Dempsey now holds the outdoor mark after her performance on Saturday. Dempsey recorded a jump of 18'8" to shatter the previous record of 16'11.5" that was set by Marcia Orr in 1994.

HIGHLIGHTS

Sophomore Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.) won the 400m with a personal-record time of 58.32

Ronald Hill (New Bedford, Mass.) ran to a third-place finish in the 200m with a time of 23.74 and finished second in the 100 (11.61).

Sophomore Jocelyn Davies (Yarmouth, Maine) finished second in the high jump with a height of 1.37m.

Junior Jasmine Bryant (Salem, Mass.) won the triple jump with a distance of 9.64m.

Christopher Chapruet (Danvers, Mass.) and Russell Stevens (Colchester, Conn.) both set PRs in the 3000 with times of 8:54.80 and 8:58.31, respectively.

Freshman Frankie Ray (Westport, Mass.) finished second in the high jump with a height of 1.83.

Ademitokunbo Oremule (Mansfield, Conn.) finished third in the high jump (1.73) and the long jump (5.68).

Sophomore Adam Malone (Speonk, N.Y.) won the triple jump with a distance of 13.62m.

The women's 4x100 and 4x400 both finished second. Hayes, Bryant, Rebecca Nunez (Greenwich, R.I.) and Dempsey made up the 4x100 team. Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.), Nunez, Dempsey and Hayes were the 4x400 team.

The men's 4x400 team of Nicholas Douglas (Shelton, Conn.), Antonio Siracusa (Bridgewater, Mass.), Daniel Donohue (New Bedford, Mass.) and Kyle Reid (North Raynham, Mass.) finished first with a time of 3:21.89.

At Brown, Nick Todman (Danbury, Conn.), Brian Sullivan (Hingham, Mass.), Adam Smith (Sussex, N.J.) and Katelyn Kelleher (Wrentham, Mass.) all set PRs in the hammer throw. Todman recorded a toss of 48.05m, Sullivan a toss of 45.86m, Smith a toss of 42.46m and Kelleher a toss of 42.87m.

John Somers (Wallingford, Conn.) set a PR in the pole vault with a height of 4.30m.
