Bulldogs Open Outdoor Season at Shamrock Classic

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- One event win, two school records, and 18 top-eight finishes highlighted the Bryant track and field teams' season opener at this weekend's Shamrock Classic in Myrtle Beach. 

Abby Hamilton took home the Bulldogs' lone win, also setting a program record in the mile. Mason Jones set Bryant's other record while placing fourth in the pole vault, and Nicholas Brancato also brought home a runner-up finish in the 3000m steeplechase.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Hamilton won the mile with her school record time of 5:04.34. Justin Shiffrin also placed in the men's mile, coming home eighth with a time of 4:26.70.

  • Jones placed fourth in the pole vault with a school record of 4.46 meters.

  • Brancato ran a 9:35.56 in the 3000 meter steeplechase to place second, the best individual result on the men's side.

  • Casey Curran (10:48.59) and Myah Kamperides (10:53.67) placed sixth and eighth in the women's steeplechase.

  • Ryan Slaney placed fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.83. Tobias Ruffo joined him with a sixth place time of 1:56.50.

  • Ali Kairys placed seventh in the women's 800 with a time of 2:23.96.

  • Ethan Ferraiola and Colton Jacques placed seventh and eighth in the 400 hurdles with times of 56.91 and 57.04.

  • Grace Yost placed fifth in the women's 400 hurdles with a time of 1:04.09.

  • Anaya Harris placed fifth in the first women's discus event of the year with a distance of 38.82 meters.

  • Mike Marshall, Jr. placed fifth in the high jump with a best mark of 1.93 meters.

  • Jasmine Hope placed eighth in the long jump with a distance of 5.51 meters.

  • John Bruder and Kasey Thomas each placed fourth in the shot put with throws of 16.01 and 13.09 meters. Lily Lagoy also placed eighth on the women's side at 11.99 meters.

What's next: The Bulldogs have this weekend off before hosting the Black and Gold Invitational on March 31 and April 1.
