Bryant loses to FIU on Friday

MIAMI, FLA. – The Bryant University women's basketball team fell to FIU 88-59 in the first game of the FIU Thanksgiving Tournament.

Mia Mancini scored a team-high 16 points, making five from deep. Stephanie Mayerhofer scored 12 points and hit two from beyond the arc.

  • The Bulldogs cut it to eight after the first quarter, but then FIU outscored Bryant 23-9 to gain a 20-point halftime lead.

How it Happened

  • The Panthers jumped out to a 16-3 lead at the game's first media timeout. Mancini made a three for the Bulldogs.
  • The Bulldogs regained momentum, outscoring FIU 13-8. Mariona Planes Fortuny scored four after the media, and then Martina Boba turned offense into defense, making a fastbreak layup and a transition three. Mancini made a three to beat the buzzer off of a Megan Bodziony steal (24-16).
  • FIU went on a quick 5-0 run to open the second quarter before Boba hit a three-pointer to stop the run (29-19).
  • The Bulldogs would score five, compared to the Panthers nine, before the media timeout. Kemari Reynolds finished a tough layup through contact, and Mancini hit a three caused by a FIU turnover (38-24).
  • The Panthers made three consecutive from deep, and Bryant converted one from Bodziony to make the halftime 47-27 in favor of FIU.
  • Fortuny began the second half with a three-pointer, followed by a Mancini triple (49-33).
  • FIU then went on a 10-4 run before the third-quarter media timeout (59-37).
  • Stephanie Mayerhofer made a corner triple heading out of the media timeout (59-40).
