Kaut Scores 100th Career Goal in Loss to Brown

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- Three Bryant hat tricks weren't enough as the Bulldog women's lacrosse team fell to Brown 21-13 in the 14th annual Ocean State Cup on Tuesday in Smithfield. Bryant is now 2-12 all-time in the series against their in-state rivals.

Kenna Kaut, Skylar Simmonds, and Emily Oliver combined for ten of the Bulldogs' 13 goals, with Kaut's four leading the way. Her final goal was also the 100th of her career, making her the ninth player in DI program history to reach that milestone.

Brown 21, Bryant 13

Records: BRY (4-4, 0-1 AE), BRO (4-3, 1-0 Ivy)

How it Happened

Q1: Brown got the scoring started quickly with a goal less than a minute into the game, but Kaut responded with a woman-down score just two minutes later. The Bears came back and then some, scoring eight consecutive goals over the final 10:31 of the first quarter to stake themselves to an insurmountable advantage.

Q2: Kaut found the net again off an assist from Chamberlaine Bell to start the scoring in the second, but the Brown offense quickly regained control with a smaller 3-0 run over the next three minutes. The Bulldogs were able to gather some momentum after a pair of Simmonds goals and one apiece from Kaut and Oliver, but the Bears were able to retain a large lead going into halftime.

Q3: Brown extended their lead to ten with a pair of early goals in the third quarter. Bryant was able to put together a mini-run to halt the running clock, as Oliver and Kaut each scored off free-position opportunities. Two more Bears goals put the lead back up to ten before Oliver's third and final score cut it to nine going to the fourth.

Q4: The Bulldogs cut the lead to six for the first time since the first quarter with three straight scores to begin the fourth, as Margaret Adams, Simmonds, and Bell each found the net in the first six minutes. Brown responded with their own 3-0 run before Emma Wymes scored her second career goal to close the scoring with 25 seconds left in the game.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Kaut's four goals marked her sixth game this season with at least that many. She averages an America East-leading 4.25 per game this season and is now the ninth player in DI program history with 100 career goals.

  • Simmonds has now recorded hat tricks in each of her last four games and six of eight overall this year. Her 25 goals are second on the team to Kaut, and she is 12 goals away from joining Kaut in the 100-goal club.

  • Oliver's hat trick was her fourth on the year, and her three goals and five points were each one shy of a career high. Her 19 goals and 17 assists both rank top three for the Bulldogs this season.

What's next: Bryant will return to America East play this Saturday when they host UMass Lowell at 1:00 pm.
