Simmonds' 100th Career Goal Highlights Win Over Stonehill

EASTON, Mass.- The Bryant women's lacrosse team concluded its non-conference schedule with a 17-13 win over Stonehill on Wednesday night in Easton. The Bulldogs are now 7-6 overall heading into the regular season finale next week.

Skylar Simmonds and Emily Oliver combined for eight goals and three assists to lead the Bryant offense. Peyton Woodward added three goals for her fourth career hat trick, and Kenna Kaut scored her 50th goal of the season.

Records: BRY 7-6 (2-3 AE), STO 4-10 (4-3 NEC)

How it Happened

Q1: The Bulldogs dominated the early stages of the game, scoring the first six goals in a row over the first 11 minutes of action. Simmonds scored two herself in the first two minutes of play, finishing the quarter with a hat trick. Oliver scored twice in the quarter as well, helping Bryant to an 8-1 lead at the first break.

Q2: The momentum switched sides in the second as Stonehill opened the quarter on a 4-0 run. Bryant was held scoreless in the first half of the period before Jessica Colaillo broke the dry spell with a free position goal, her second of the season. Two goals by Woodward and another by Amelia Piercy put the Bulldog lead back up to seven going into halftime.

Q3: Bryant's offense was stymied in the third, as the Bulldogs could not find the net for over 14 minutes before Oliver broke the ice with her third score with just 42 seconds left on the clock. The Skyhawks used that time to mount another run, scoring four times to cut the lead to four at the end of the quarter.

Q4: Stonehill continued to gain momentum in the fourth, taking advantage of multiple Bryant turnovers to score three in a row and make it a one goal game with just over 11 minutes to play. Simmonds responded with her first goal in 40 minutes of game action to keep the Skyhawks from tying it up, and three more goals courtesy of Woodward, Oliver, and Emily DeGeorge iced the win for the Bulldogs.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Skylar Simmonds' fourth quarter goal was the 100th of her career. She becomes the tenth player in program history to hit the century mark, joining Kenna Kaut as active players in the 100-goal club.

  • Simmonds scored four or more goals for the fourth time this season, and has scored multiple goals in 12 consecutive games.

  • Emily Oliver's four goals and six points tied a season and career high. She is now the team leader with 60 points on the season.

  • Kenna Kaut has now reached 50 goals in back-to-back seasons, becoming just the third player in program history to score at least that many multiple times.

  • The Bulldogs finish their non-conference slate 4-3. They have now won 11 of 13 games against NEC teams over the last two years, including a 3-0 record in non-conference action this season.

What's next: Bryant will close the regular season at home on April 29 against first place UAlbany. They will potentially have a chance to clinch a playoff spot with a win, depending on the results of this weekend's America East games.
