Bulldogs welcome Colonials on Senior Day

WOMEN'S SOCCER HOSTS ROBERT MORRIS FRIDAY FOR SENIOR DAY 2012

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After securing a dramatic, 1-0 double overtime win against Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, the Bulldogs are currently tied for fourth place in the Northeast Conference standings with two games left on their 2012 slate.

Bryant (9-8, 4-4 NEC), once again, split its two weekend games, coming back with a win on Sunday after dropping a 2-1 decision to Sacred Heart Friday night. The Black and Gold will welcome Robert Morris (1-13-2, 1-4-1 NEC) to Smithfield on Friday as the program honors 11 seniors playing in the final home game of their Bryant careers.

Sunday's contest was played with slick playing conditions and was dominated by the Black and Gold as they outshot the Knights 23-9. It was also a very physical game with the teams combining for 23 fouls and a pair of yellow cards.

Bryant's persistence finally paid off in the second OT. Graduate student Mary Green (Merrick, N.Y.) played a perfect ball to the end line for Kaitlyn Fare (Millstone Township, N.J.) who crossed into the box. The ball found Rachael Ivanicki (Colts Neck, N.J.) but her shot was denied by a diving Felicia Bur. She couldn't control the rebound, however, and after a scrum, Shana Follette (Plymouth, Mass.) was able to poke it home for the game-winner.

The Colonials enter Friday's action with a 1-4-1 record in the NEC after coming off a 4-1 loss to Saint Francis (PA) on Sunday. Junior Alexa Sarsfield and sophomore Cassie Raymond lead their squad, each tallying four points on the season. Chelsea De Jager and Rebekah Schoenecker split the goaltending duties for the Colonials, each registering a shutout on the year.

Last season, The Bulldogs edged Robert Morris on the road, 2-1, with the help of a goal from junior Ari Goldberg (East Bridgewater, Mass.). Bryant is unbeaten against the Colonials entering Friday, defeating the NEC-foe in all three of their previous matchups.

Currently sitting in fourth place in the NEC standings, the Bulldogs chances of a postseason berth would significantly improve with a win on Senior Day.
