Bulldogs fall to Minutewomen, 3-0, on the road

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's soccer team was defeated by UMass, 3-0, in Amherst Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (1-5) were held scoreless, as the Minutewomen (1-3-2) found their first win of the season.

At the break, the Black and Gold trailed by one score after UMass' Laura Johns serviced the ball far post from the left flank, where Madison Smith was there to drive it home.

The Minutewomen advanced their lead in the 77th minute, when Megan Burke finished a deflection from six yards out. Daniela Alvarez took the initial shot and Burke was there to polish the rebound off right down the middle.

Breanna Robinson found the top-right shelf to solidify the UMass 3-0 victory. Alvarez found Johns, who fired the initial shot off and Robinson was there to put it away.

Sophomore forward Haley Reddish (Natick, Mass.) rattled off three shots for the Bulldogs, landing one on goal. Freshmen, Alex Ralph (Peterborough, Ont.) and Alex Spangler (Acton, Mass.), each tallied one shot on net for the Black and Gold.

Sophomore Rachel Brightman (Rochester, N.Y.) played all 90 minutes for the Bulldogs, recording eight saves on the game.

Bryant wraps up its series of road games, traveling to take on Hartford on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
