Benson's last minute goal leads Bulldogs to conference victory Friday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After 88 minutes of scoreless play, forward Scout Benson (Lynnfield, Mass.) found the back of the net for the Bulldogs, leading them to a 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (2-8-1, 1-0) kicked off conference play with a win over the Hawks (3-7, 0-1), marking their second victory of the season.

The momentum swung between both teams in the second half, but it was the Bulldogs that came out on top, after Benson dribbled right side to create space from a Hawks' defender. With her right foot, the senior ripped a shot from 12 yards out, scoring past Sacred Heart's keeper Talia Schwartz.

The score marked the Bulldogs only shot on net, leaving Schwartz with no saves in the game. Bryant goalie Kaylan Conrad (Avon, Conn.) came up big, collecting seven saves and recording her second shutout of the season.

The Hawks tallied seven of 23 shots on goal, with Marissa Christy leading the squad with six. The Black and Gold rattled off nine total shots and were led in the category by sophomore Haley Reddish (Natick, Mass.).

The Bulldogs continue conference play on Sunday when they host Wagner at 1 p.m. in Smithfield.
