Hannagen and Williams score first career goals, leading Bulldogs to back to back conference wins

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – For the first time in program history, the Bryant University women's soccer team starts Northeast Conference play at 2-0, following the 2-1 victory over Wagner on Sunday afternoon.

In the 2nd minute of the match, junior Megan Fritz put the Hawks (1-9-1) in the lead, after Diana Saber serviced her the ball in the Bulldogs' (3-8-1) defensive third. Fritz dribbled up the left flank and shot, bending the ball into the top right corner of the net.

The Black and Gold found the equalizer before the close of the first half, when junior Caitlin Hannagen (Richboro, Pa.) one-timed a deflection into the left side of the net, recording her first career goal.

Senior Shea Williams (Londonderry, N.H.) also recorded her first collegiate score, which proved to be the Bulldogs' game-winning goal in the 81st minute of play. Classmate Scout Benson (Lynnfield, Mass.) won a loose ball in Hawks territory and hit Williams with a diagonal pass into the 18-yard box. Williams fired the shot from the right, finishing top shelf on the far side, over Wagner keeper Katie Viscardi.

Viscardi closed the match with a single save, while junior Kaylan Conrad (Avon, Conn.) recorded five keeps for the Bulldogs.

The Black and Gold placed three of nine shots on frame, while the Hawks notched seven of 21 attempts on goal.

The Bulldogs return to action, traveling to face conference foe Saint Francis on Friday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m.
