Late-game goals give Bulldogs victory over NEC foe Mount St. Mary's

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After 78 minutes of scoreless soccer at the Bulldog Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon, it looked as if the Bryant University women's soccer team and Mount St. Mary's were headed to overtime. But three goals in the final 12 minutes, with two coming from the Bulldogs, changed that and gave Andy Biggs' club a 2-1 victory in a Northeast Conference women's soccer match.

Coach Bigg's Comments

"We created a lot of chances from start to finish again today. The two goals we scored were excellent goals. We got great service from the free kick and the ball from Haley was hit really well. What we need to do now is continue to keep our confidence high in the penalty box and maybe finish a couple that are closer in."

Key Moment

  • Haley Reddish (Natick, Mass.) started the scoring with a miraculous run with the ball from just inside the midfield line to the top of the box, where she unleashed a shot into the upper right corner and gave Bryant the lead in the 79th minute.

Scoring Summary

  • 79th minute – Bryant 1, Mount St. Mary's 0 – It was a great display of skill from Reddish as the senior ran with the ball and was able to dance around a couple of defenders at the top of the box before firing the shot into the net.
  • 83rd minute – Bryant 2, Mount St. Mary's 0 – After a foul by the Mountaineers 35 yards away from the goal, Becca Michaud (Westport, Mass.) played a perfect ball into the box, where Remi Manna (Pleasantville, N.Y.) was waiting to flick it on goal and into the net. The keeper came out to play the ball, but Manna beat her to it and put it in the empty net.
  • 86th minute – Bryant 2, Mount St. Mary's 1 – After Bryant got called for a foul in the box, Kayla Hughes put the penalty kick into the bottom left corner to get the Mountaineers on the board.

Stats/Notes

  • Reddish entered the Top 10 in the NEC with her fourth goal of the season on Sunday.
  • Manna and Reddish are tied atop the team leaderboard at eight points.
  • Michaud's assist was her second in the last three games, adding that to one against Robert Morris on Sept. 29. Both assists came on the game-winning goal.
  • Bryant has won two of their first three NEC contests for the third consecutive season.
