BRYANT SWIMMING STARTS BUSY WEEKEND ON SATURDAY
Men and Women face Fairfield Saturday, Women take on Vermont Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant men's and women's swimming teams face off against Fairfield on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Chace Athletic Center Pool. The women's team continues a busy weekend with another home meet against Vermont on Sunday at 1 p.m.

On Saturday, both the men's (1-5) and women's (2-6) teams will meet the Fairfield Stags. The Bulldogs last competed on Friday in a tri-meet with Providence College and Brown. While the Bryant women defeated Providence and fell to Brown, the men suffered losses to both schools.

The women's team continued to see a lot of strong individual performances last Friday. Sophomore Casey Ostrander (Yarmouthport, Mass.) finished first of the 12 competitors from the three schools in the 100 meter freestyle and also picked up a third-place finish in the 50 meter freestyle. The first place finish was her team-leading 12th event win this season. Freshman Taylor DeBever (Denver, Colo.) finished third in the 200 meter freestyle and has placed in the top 3 at least once at every meet this season. DeBever is second behind Ostrander with 10 first place finishes this year.

The men's team, which only lost to Providence 109.50 to 110.50, also saw some solid performances in the tri-meet. The men's team of junior Alex Kosenski (Lavallette, N.J.) and freshmen Logan Hammerstein (Fairfield Township, Ohio), Derek Hawkes (Westbrook, Maine) and Nicholas Karadimas (New Milford, Conn.) took first in 200 meter freestyle relay. Kosenski also took second place in the 100 meter and 50 meter freestyle events. Konsenski has taken first in a team-leading 8 events this year. Karadimas took second in the 200 meter free style.

The Stags should provide some tough competition for the Bulldogs with both their men's and women's teams carrying identical 3-2 records into Saturday's meet. Both of Fairfield's teams are coming off big wins against Manhattan last weekend. The Stags and Bulldogs have shared a pair of opponents on their schedules this season: Boston College and Providence. While like the Bulldogs both of their teams were defeated by the Eagles, the Stags men and women each emerged victorious against the Friars.

The University of Vermont (6-1) will be another strong opponent for the Bryant women's swim team on Sunday. The Cats, winners of three straight, are coming off a victory over the University of Maine, a team that defeated the Bulldogs twice earlier in the season. The Cats have also defeated Boston College.
