WOMEN'S SWIMMING SINKS STAGS; OSTRANDER, DEBEVER CONTINUE TO PERFORM

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Casey Ostrander (Yarmouthport, Mass.) captured four first-place finishes as the Bulldogs picked up their third dual-win this season, defeating Fairfield University 144.00-118.00. Bryant saw solid performances from an array of swimmers, as the home team won seven out of the fourteen events and set several pool records Saturday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center swimming complex.

Bryant started fast out of the gate, capturing the 400-yard medley relay by a four-second margin. Ostrander, Brianne Dwyer (Hicksville, N.Y), Abby Whittaker (Salisbury, Mass.) and Taylor Debever (Denver Colo.) mustered together a time of 4:02.24, giving the Bulldogs 11 crucial points early on in the meet.

Ostrander had a monumental day for the Black and Gold, collecting multiple first-place finishes. Ostrander captured the 200-yard backstroke event with a time of 2:06.70, and won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.53.

Her day was not finished though, as the Massachusetts native generated a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay alongside Amy D'Olympia (Mattapoisett, Mass.), Katleyn Kidney (Lynn, Mass.) and Kim Carballiera (East Setauket, N.Y.). The relay team recorded a time of 3:43.97, five seconds faster than the closest, marking a new pool record.

In addition, freshman standout DeBever contributed greatly to the Bryant victory, as the rookie took first place in the 100-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. DeBever touched the wall first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:17.97 and paced the 100-yard field with a time of 53.48.

Adding to the mix was Dwyer, who set a new pool record for the 100-yard breastroke, touching the wall in just 1:08.78.

The Bulldogs waste no time as they head back into the water Sunday Nov. 21 for a home meet against the University of Vermont.
