Sjoberg's third set victory helps Bulldogs trump Knights, 4-3, in NEC opener

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – With the match tied, 3-3, sophomore Linnea Sjoberg's (Stockholm, Sweden) No. 2 singles victory in three games sealed the Bryant University women's tennis team's 4-3 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (3-5, 1-0) solidified the doubles' point after juniors Marion Bouillin (San Diego, Calif.) and Ryan Brown (Austin, Texas) defeated the Knights' (3-3, 0-1) Gisela Castany and Shreya Pasricha, 6-1 in the No. 1 slot and Sjoberg and sophomore Stefanie Arroyo (Gurabo, Puerto Rico) took down Liza Rachenko and Sabrina Helm by the same margin in the No. 3 spot.

FDU found their points in No. 1, 3 and 4 singles, as Nicole Chis moved passed Brown, 6-2, 6-2, before Pasricha defeated sophomore Nina Luiggi (Nottingham, England), 6-4, 6-1, and Castany trumped junior Briana Leonard (Westford, Mass.), 6-0, 6-1.

Sophomore Ashanti Campfield (Stratford, Conn.) conquered Katarina Pavlovic, 6-2, 1-0, before the No. 5 singles match was retired. Bouillin held Helm scoreless, 6-0, 6-0, taking the point for Bryant in the No. 6 singles spot.

The battle came down to the third set in the No. 2 singles slot between Sjoberg and Rachenko. After losing the first game, 3-6, Sjoberg came back to win the next two, 7-5, 6-4, sealing the game-winning point for the Bulldogs, as they took down FDU, 4-3, in their NEC opener.
