Women's tennis hosts Butler Friday, visits Siena on Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's tennis team returns to the courts this weekend when it faces Butler and Siena.

Bryant will host Butler at Fore Court in Cumberland, before heading to Latham, N.Y., to take on the Saints at Tri-City Fitness.

"We are really looking forward to this weekend's matches. After the strong win over Fairfield, we are hoping to carry on that momentum and continue to build on that improvement in our play."

Series History

  • Bryant and Butler will be facing off for the first time in program history.
  • The Bulldogs are 2-1 in three meetings with the Saints. Bryant won the first two meetings in 2012 and 2013, but Siena was victorious last spring, 4-3.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • As coach Cilli referenced, the Bulldogs are coming off a dominating victory over Fairfield (7-0) last time out. The win evened Bryant's record at 2-2 on the year.
  • Arianna Oropeza (Weston, Fla.) and Gabrielle Bergeron (Quebec, Canada) both continued to perform well for the Black and Gold. Oropeza improved to 4-1 in dual matches, while Bergeron is now 3-0 on the year.
  • The duo also clinched the doubles point for the Bulldogs are they are 2-0 together.
  • Senior Stefanie Arroyo (Gurabo, Puerto Rico) also picked up a win on Sunday and is now 3-1 in dual matches this season.

Scouting the Butler Bulldogs

  • Butler enters the weekend 3-7 overall and 0-1 in the Big East. The Bulldogs will also face Rhode Island on Friday afternoon before ending their trip with a match against Providence on Saturday.
  • Bailey Padgett has played the most at No. 1 singles, going 3-7 on the year.
  • Nina Bertino is 5-5 overall and has posted a 4-4 mark at No. 5 singles.

Scouting the Saints

  • Siena enters the weekend with a 5-1 overall record and a 1-0 mark in conference matches.
  • The Saints advanced to the MAAC Championship Round last spring, falling to top-seeded Quinnipiac.
  • Ivana Boberic, Kylie Mullaney and Rina Sakaj have been the Saints' most successful players in singles.
  • Boberic is 3-3 at the No. 1 spot, Mullaney is 5-1 overall and 3-1 at the No. 2 spot, and Sakaj has played at No. 4 (1-0), No. 5 (3-0) and No. 6 (2-0) singles this year.
