Kendall, Estrada shine for women's tennis

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's tennis team opened the fall season with a strong performance at the Quinnipiac Invitational this weekend.

Leanne Kendall (Lakeville, Mass.) and Manuela Gomez Estrada (Guayaquil, Ecuador) highlighted the weekend as they won the B doubles flight with a perfect 4-0 record. They defeated Kostirko/Martens from Boston University, 6-4, in the final.

How it Happened

  • Kendall and Gomez Estrada defeated Lombardi/Campos from Fairfield, 6-2, Bou/Dimaio from Army, 6-0, and Blaser/Nguyen from BU, 7-5, to advance to the final.
  • Ada Boru (Istanbul, Turkey) and Sarah Hickey (Toronto, Ont.) picked up a first round victory in the A flight, defeating Moreau and Cook from UConn, 6-4.
  • In singles, Kendall advanced to the third round of the C flight. She defeated Gilbert (Army), 6-7 (6), 6-4, 10-7, Magliochetti (Prov), 6-0, 6-0, before falling to Martens (BU), 6-2, 6-3.
  • Marisa Minjarez (Rancho Cordova, Calif.) won her first collegiate match in the D flight, defeating Zammarieh (QU), 7-5, 6-4.
  • Gabrielle Bergeron (Quebec, Canada) and Caterina Luisa Rokke (Oslo, Norway) both picked up wins in the E flight. Bergeron defeated Fay from Sacred Heart, 6-1, 6-2. Rokke knocked off Epstein from PC, 6-1, 7-6 (5).
  • Hickey, Megan Tan (Calgary, Alberta) and Estrada all advanced to consolation finals in their respective flights.
