Women's Tennis set to face Nicholls State in Southland Championships

FRISCO, Texas -- The Bryant University women's tennis team heads to Corpus Christi, Texas this week for the 2023 Southland Conference Women's Tennis Championship. Bryant will enter as the No. 8 seed and will face ninth-seeded Nicholls State on Thursday, April 20.

Bryant enters its first Southland Conference Championship with an 11-8 overall record. The 10-team tournament will be held at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Courts on the campus of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

The Black and Gold have enjoyed a strong spring semester that includes wins over Siena, Stony Brook, Fairfield and URI. Bryant also squared off with four teams in this weekend's championship, falling to New Orleans, Nicholls State, Southeastern Louisiana and NJIT.

Bryant will get a second shot at Nicholls State on Thursday. The Black and Gold fell, 5-2, in a tight match during spring break. Bryant won the doubles point but lost a tight match at No. 1 and No. 3.

The Bulldogs will look to Sarah Hickey, Natalia Vela, Caitlyn Munson, Olivia Rondini, Lisa Marie Dugec and Camila Baeza in singles. Hickey is in her fifth year and has played well in championship play over the course of her career.

Just a freshman, Vela is 9-8 in singles this season, going 5-5 in her last 10. Munson has enjoyed another strong year, posting an 11-7 record, while Rondini is 8-7. Dugec is another freshman that has played well this year, going 9-7 overall. Baeza gives the Black and Gold a steady option at the bottom as she enters 11-3 overall and a winner of her last five matches.

In doubles, Bryant will likely roll out Baeza and Manuela Gomez Estrada at No. 1. The senior duo is 9-7 on the year. Munson and Rondini are the most experienced group together, posting a 6-9 record on the year. Hickey and Vela round it out at No. 3, posting an 8-5 mark.
