Volleyball Heads to Northeastern Tournament

BOSTON, MASS.- The Bryant women's volleyball team will travel to Boston this weekend to take part in the Northeastern University Invitational. In addition to the host Huskies, Bryant will play Harvard and Villanova.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • The Bulldogs set a single match record (4 sets) with 14 service aces against Holy Cross on Saturday. Emma McGovern and Mia Cergol led the match with four each.

  • McGovern led Bryant with 11 kills and a .500 attack % against Brown on Tuesday.

  • Riley James and Alysa Wright lead the NEC in service aces and blocks, respectively. James has posted 13 aces this season, and Wright has 34 blocks.

  • Milestone Watch: Haley O'Brien enters the weekend with 195 career blocks. She is looking to become the seventh player in Bryant's Division I history to reach 200 career rejections. Mia Cergol is closing on 1000 career assists, coming into the weekend with 984 in her career. She would be the fifth DI Bulldog to reach the mark.

Harvard Match Preview: Scouting the Crimson

  • Harvard is 1-2 to start the season. They went 5-18 (2-10 Ivy) in 2019.

  • Player to Watch: Junior right side Jaimie Rao leads the Crimson with 43 kills on the season and is second on the team with eight blocks. 

  • Bryant is 0-3 against Harvard all-time (all in Division I), with their last matchup coming in 2011.

Northeastern Match Preview: Scouting the Huskies

  • The Huskies are 2-5 this season. They went 8-3 (4-1 CAA), and advanced to the conference championship game last season.

  • Player to Watch: Senior Samantha Shupe was the 2020-21 CAA setter of the year. She leads the Huskies and is second in the CAA with 273 assists this season. 

  • This will be Bryant's first matchup with Northeastern since 1985. They are 1-4 all-time.

Villanova Match Preview: Scouting the Wildcats

  • Villanova is 3-3 so far this season. They were 4-6 (3-5 Big East) last season.

  • Player to Watch: Sophomore outside hitter Riley Homer leads the Wildcats with 67 kills and is top five in digs, kills, and service aces. She was a Big East All-Freshman Team selection last season.

  • Bryant is 0-1 all-time against 'Nova. Their only matchup came in 2019, a 3-0 loss in Smithfield.
