Volleyball Falls to Villanova in Boston

BOSTON, MASS.- The Bryant women's volleyball team fell to Villanova in the final match of the Northeastern tournament, by a score of 3-0.

Match Information

Villanova 3, Bryant 0 (25-18, 25, 18, 25-21)

Records: Bryant (5-5), Villanova (5-3)

Location: Cabot Center (Boston, Mass.)

Coach Garlacy's Comments

"Our passing game collapsed, preventing us from running our offense. The combination of Mia Cergol and Caroline Kennedy continued to improve their connection, and Miranda Jantzen had a nice debut as well."

How it happened:

Set 1: Both teams came out of the gate with strong offense. The score stayed close for most of the set, but Bryant was unable to keep up with Villanova's attacks. Despite the final score, five different players recorded multiple kills for the Bulldogs in the period.

Set 2: The second set played out similarly to the first, with Bryant and Nova exchanging the lead five times. However, a 7-1 run by the Wildcats put it out of reach. Miranda Jantzen led Bryant with three kills in the set, the first three of her collegiate career.

Set 3: Villanova took the lead early in the final period and held it throughout. Bryant was able to make a late run, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Wildcats. Caroline Kennedy's four kills tied for most in the set.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant had six players register at least four kills in the match. Caroline Kennedy led the way with eight, while Emma McGovern and Riley James each had six.

  • Alysa Wright had two blocks in the match, and now has an NEC leading 42 on the season.

  • Caroline Kennedy was named to the all-tournament team. She finished the weekend with a team-high 31 kills.
