Volleyball Falls to UConn to Open Weekend

STORRS, CT- The Bryant women's volleyball team fell to UConn by a score of 3-0 in the opening match of the Dog Pound Invitational.

How it Happened

Set 1: The Bulldogs scored the opening point of the match and led for much of the first set. However, their lead never got bigger than four, and UConn used a late rally to take the lead and win the set. Bryant had four total blocks in the period, including two from Alysa Wright. Riley James and Emma McGovern had four kills each to pace the Bulldogs.

Set 2: Bryant once again led early in the set, getting out to a 7-2 lead. They held the lead late in the period, as well, before a 7-0 run gave the Huskies the lead. McGovern once again led the offense, with six kills and no errors in the set. Bryant had a solid .276 attack percentage, but UConn had an even better .317 mark.

Set 3: UConn got the early advantage in the third set. They opened up a lead, but Bryant gradually came back, making it a one point set at 22-21 before the Huskies finished it off. McGovern had five kills in the set, while Haley O'Brien landed three kills on just four attacks. As a team, Bryant equaled UConn's 15 kills in the period, but committed six more attack errors than the Huskies.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Emma McGovern led the match with 14 kills, her third highest total this season. She now has 29 over her last two games and leads the Bulldogs with 109 kills on the season.

  • Mia Cergol posted 34 assists in the match, the third time this season and tenth time in her career she's reached that mark.

  • Aubrey Lapour had her second consecutive game with four kills coming off the bench. She has now more than doubled her season total in the last two contests.
