Volleyball Beats FDU, Sweeps Third Straight

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant women's volleyball team won their third straight match with a 3-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson. It was also their third consecutive sweep, and their eighth win in their last nine matches.

"It was a great start to the weekend. Mia ran a very efficient offense, and we were able to convert our out of system balls. Caroline really stepped up when the pressure was high in the third set to bring us home."

 

How it Happened

Set 1: Bryant fell behind to start the first set, but responded with a 4-0 run to take the lead. They held the lead through the rest of the set, gradually pulling away to win by ten. Alysa Wright had four kills and a block for the Bulldogs in the set, and Emma McGovern had two of Bryant's four aces.

Set 2: The Bulldogs never trailed in the second set, but had to fend off multiple runs by FDU, who tied the score five times. The set was tied as late as 17-17, before Bryant scored eight of the last ten points to pull away. Riley James and Caroline Kennedy had four kills each for Bryant, who out-killed FDU 16-5 in the set.

Set 3: The final set was the most competitive of the match. There were twelve ties and five lead changes, and no team had a lead larger than four. The set was tied as 22 before the Bulldogs rattled off three straight points to win the set and match. Riley James led the attack for Bryant in the set, with seven kills.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Riley James led all players with 13 kills, and also had two blocks, an ace, two assists, and eight digs. She leads the Bulldogs with 211 kills on the season.

  • Mia Cergol posted her sixth double-double of the season with a 33 assist, 10 dig effort. She also pitched in two kills on nine attempts.

  • Caroline Kennedy had ten kills and a match high .400 attack percentage, as well as two block assists. Her 199 kills this season are second on the team.

  • Bryant had nine total blocks, with Alysa Wright leading the way with five block assists and one solo block. Wright also had seven kills in the match.
