Camacho records 1000th assist as Bulldogs beat Bearcats in Five Set Thriller

SMITHFIELD, R.I.– The Bryant women's volleyball team defeated Binghamton University on Friday in their final home regular season match of the season. After falling to the Bearcats in three sets earlier in the year, the Black and Gold went the distance in what many would consider to be their biggest victory of the season.

COACH GARLACY'S COMMENTS

"What an amazing win! The team showed great resilience, battled back and never gave up."

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs Binghamton)

  • Set 1- The Bulldogs got off to a good start to open the first set. The team would  go on a 12-5 and saw offensive production from multiple players. Up 21-16 and just four points from victory however, the Bearcats would muster a comeback and get Bryant out of their rhythm. Late miscues would see Binghamton even the score, extend the set, and eventually get the victory by a score of 26-24. Arianna Ugolini had 4 kills and Carolina Camacho had 5 assists.

  • Set 2- Bryant regained their momentum from early in the first and managed to build a slight advantage in the middle of the set. Kills from Aubrey Lapour and Madison Koeller helped the Bulldogs maintain the lead and propelled the team to a 25-22 win. Carolina Camacho posted 7 assists in the set which was enough for her to earn the 1000th of her Bryant career.

  • Set 3-After falling behind by four, a magnificent rally would help the Bulldogs tie the set at 11. The team would then catch fire and go on an unbelievable 14-4 run and ride to an emphatic 25-15 win. Madison Koeller showed off even more trickery and earned herself an additional 2 skip set kills. Four Bryant players also had service aces in the set.

  • Set 4- With the opportunity to secure the upset up 23-19, Bryant would lose the set on a heartbreaker as Binghamton stormed back and scored six points to win 25-23 and force a fifth. Arianna Ugolini and Brookelyn Takamadge had 4 kills each in the set. London Hunt also had 2 blocks.

  • Set 5- The Bulldogs came out sluggish to start the fifth with Binghamton going on a 5-1 run. Down 1-4, Bryant's Head Coach, Theresa Garlacy, would call a timeout in an attempt to refocus her group. This could not have been more effective as coming out of the break, the Bulldogs would manage to outscore their opponent 14-5 and clinch their spot in the conference tournament following consecutive kills from London Hunt and Arianna Ugolini. Final Score 15-9. Ugolini had 4 kills in the abbreviated set and Carrina Barron had 4 digs.
