BRYANT XC HAS STRONG SHOWING AT NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
BOSTON, Mass. –The Bryant University men's and women's cross country teams returned to Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. for the New England Championships Saturday finishing 33rd and 42nd overall respectively. Both sides continued to improve as the team prepares for the Northeast Conference championships at the end of the month.
"The men's team ran extremely well, and I was thrilled to see their progression over the last few weeks. Today was a very big breakthrough for the entire varsity and sub-varsity squads - personal and season bests by the entire team. They are in a perfect place now heading into conference," said head cross country coach Steph Reilly.
Sophomore David Hurley (Ashway, R.I.) led the Bulldogs with a time of 26:19 and a 118th place finish. Hurley improved his 8k time by 37 seconds and recorded his fastest time of the 2010 season. Bryant freshman Christopher Chapruet (Danvers, Mass.) also recorded his fastest time for the season, finishing 218th overall with a time of 27:18.
"The women ran well, and again Martha and Megan ran very well up front for the women. Unfortunately the women had a little set back with the absence of Eimear racing. This alone cost them 10 places in the team standings. But they are mentally and physically gearing up to conference in a few weeks and are continuing to improve week to week on their performances, and that improvement continued today still," said Reilly.
For the second time this season, freshman Martha Reynolds (London, England) led the women's side with a time of 19:36 and a 136th place finish. Megan Robertson (Sewell, N.J.) had another solid performance, finishing the 5k course in just 19:45, recording her second fastest mark of the season.
The Bulldogs return to action Friday, Oct. 15 at the Brown Invitational, the race will be held at Goddard State Park in Warwick, R.I.
