Football wraps up spring with Black & Gold game

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University football team wrapped up its spring season with the annual Black and Gold Spring Football game on Saturday at Bulldog Stadium.

Entering his 11th year as head coach, Marty Fine ran his team through a series of drills and also several mini scrimmages over the course of the hour-long game. It was the final workout for the team until they open preseason camp in August.

On the offensive side of the ball, junior Kyle Jennings (Mount Airy, Md.) and sophomore Dalton Easton (Miami, Fla.) both performed well at quarterback. Jennings was 6-for-9 for 87 yards and Easton was 6-for-10 for 76 yards.

Defensively, rising sophomore Patrick Kenney (Camarillo, Calif.) picked up a pair of tackles and Justin Robinson-Howe (East Longmeadow, Mass.) added a beautiful interception.

The 2014 team captains were also announced prior to the game. Rising senior Jeff Covitz (Reading, Mass.) and fifth-year seniors Sam Sammons (Cypress, Texas) and Maduka Nwanekezi (Milton, Mass.) were named the three captains for the upcoming season.

Bryant will open preseason camp in August and opens its 2014 season on Thursday, August 28 at Stony Brook. The home opener is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6 vs. Merrimack.
