Bulldogs host UC Davis, visit Dartmouth over Weekend

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Looking to get back on track after a tough loss at Maine on Saturday, the Bryant University field hockey team gears up to host UC Davis Thursday before visiting Dartmouth on Sunday to wrap up the month of September.

After picking up back-to-back wins over UMass Lowell and Saint Louis, the Bulldogs dropped a heartbreaker to the hands of the Black Bears on Saturday. After senior forward Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand) put Bryant up 1-0 less than seven minutes into the contest, Maine scored three goals in the final 20 minutes of play to secure the 3-1 victory.

Entering weekend play, the Black and Gold have just four more non-conference games remaining before they open MAAC play on Oct. 12 at Sacred Heart.

On Thursday, the Bulldogs will host cross-country foe UC Davis for the first time in their brief history. The Aggies, who have taken each of the first two meetings between the two schools, enter the weekend with a 2-5 overall record coming off a 5-3 win over Central Michigan on Sunday. Kayla Wigney leads her team with 11 points on four goals and three assists while Beth Lee and Makheila MacDonald have split time in net through the first seven games.

On Sunday, Bryant travels to Hanover, N.H., for a 2 p.m. showdown with Dartmouth. The Big Green enter weekend action in search of their first win of the season, most recently falling to #20 Princeton, 4-0, on Saturday. Junior Brook Can Valkenburg leads her team with four points on a goal and two assists, while Ellen Meyer has logged almost every minute in goal, allowing four markers per contest. Last season, Bryant took down Dartmouth, 4-2, behind a goal and an assist from Bird.
