SEVEN BULLDOGS COMPETE IN NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

EVENT LIST

SEEDING LIST

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Postseason competition in track and field begins this weekend and seven members of the Bryant University track and field team will be competing in the New England Championships this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 24-25) at the Track and Tennis Center on the campus of Boston University.

Ryan Busby (Derry, N.H.), Anthony Monteiro (Leominster, Mass.), Kenneth Rayner (Acton, Mass.), Ben Polichronopoulos (South Berwick, Maine), Scott Twardowski (Rehoboth, Mass.), Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) and Kara Walsh (Waltham, Mass.) will represent the Bulldogs this weekend in Boston, Mass. All five of the men are in their final years of eligibility while the two women are completing their first year of indoor track and field.

Busby will be competing in the 3000, qualifying with a time of 8:42.29. Monteiro will be running in the 60m hurdles and is seeded first in his heat. He qualified with a time of 8.44, set at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational in late January. Rayner and Polichronopoulos will both be running in the 1000, qualifying with times of 2:40.83 and 2:39.07, respectively. Finally, Twardowski will be the Black and Gold's lone representative in the 5000. A graduate student, Twardowski set school records in the 3000 and 5000 this season, earning his qualifying time (15:03.27) at this past weekend's USATF New England Championships.

On the women's side, both Tomasetti and Walsh will look to put an exclamation point on tremendous first seasons. The two rookies will be competing in the 800, two of the 32 that will be competing in the event. Tomasetti secured her spot in the New England Championships last weekend, crossing the line with a time of 2:19.93, missing a school record by five hundredths of a second. Walsh also earned her seeding time last weekend, finishing with a time of 2:21.89.

Six of the Bulldogs – Monteiro, Tomasetti, Walsh, Rayner, Polichronopoulos and Twardowski – will be competing on Friday, while Busby is scheduled to run on Saturday.
