Todman breaks school record as Bulldogs shine at Sorlien

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Nick Todman (Danbury, Conn.) broke the school record in the weight throw to highlight an outstanding performance from the Bryant University track and field team on Saturday afternoon at the Sorlien Invitational at URI.

Led by a pair of top-10 finishes from Todman, the Bulldogs earned a total of 26 top-10 finishes on the day.

Todman became the second athlete in as many weeks to set a new school record, surpassing the mark set by Steve Odorczuk way back in 2003. Odorczuk's mark of 50'2.5" stood for over 10 years until Todman's throw of 51'7.75" shattered it on Saturday. Todman earned a fourth-place finish and went on to finish eighth in the shot put with a throw of 12.71m.

On the men's side, junior Kevin Louine (Mattapan, Mass.) and sophomore Adam Malone (Speonk, N.Y.) also excelled. Louine finished fourth in the 60 meter dash (7.15) and then placed fifth in the 200 (23.10). Malone jumped to a pair of top-three finishes, placing second in the long jump (6.44m) and third in the triple jump (13.55m).

Other top-10 finishers on the men's side included Kyle Reid (North Raynham, Mass.), Daniel Donohue (New Bedford, Mass.), Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.), Francis Foley (Acton, Mass.), Christopher Chapruet (Danvers, Mass.), Ronald Hill (New Bedford, Mass.), Peter Alie (Stoneham, Mass.), Ademitokunbo Oremule (Mansfield, Conn.), Frankie Ray (Westport, Mass.), Hayes Watson (Glastonbury, Conn.), John Somers (Wallingford, Conn.) and Brian Sullivan (Hingham, Mass.). Reid finished seventh in the 200 (23.30), Donohue finished eighth in the 400 (51.99), Landry was 8th in the 1000 (2:39.90), Foley was 10th in the 1000 (2:39.99), Chapruet was 10th in the mile (4:36.20), Hill was seventh in the 60m hurdles (9.04), Alie (1.88m), Oremule (1.83m) and Ray (1.83m) finished 7-9 in the high jump, Watson finished fifth in the pole vault (3.90m), Somers was sixth in the pole vault (3.90m) and Sullivan was eighth in the weight throw (14.47m).

On the women's side, senior Martha Reynolds (London, England) highlighted the afternoon with a third-place finish in the 3000 (10:16.06). Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) was fourth in the 500 (1:20.90) and Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.) was sixth in the 200 (27.02). Jonee Harrison (Dorchester, Mass.) earned a pair of top-10 finishes, placing fifth in the weight throw (13.93m) and ninth in the shot put (9.59m). Samantha Puckett (Canterbury, N.H.) finished seventh in the weight throw (13.54m), Katelyn Kelleher (Wrentham, Mass.) was ninth in the weight throw (12.94m) and Nicole Dempsey (Norwell, Mass.) finished ninth in the 60 (8.15).

The Bulldogs are back in action next weekend when they compete in the Terrier Invitational in Boston, Mass.
