Black wins 10,000 to highlight day one of NECs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) added another page to her historic career as she claimed the 10,000 in record-setting time to the lead the Bryant University track and field team on day one of the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Robert Morris.

Thanks to Black's historic performance, the Bulldog women are in third place with 22 points after the first day. The men find themselves in sixth with 17 points.

Hampered by injuries all season long, Black put an exclamation point on her career as she opened the final championship meet of her career in unbelievable fashion. Black shattered her own school record and set a new NEC mark in the process as she won the 10,000 with a time of 35:56.94, nearly a minute faster than the next competitor.

DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS

Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) qualified for the finals in the 800 with a time of 2:18.92.

Martha Reynolds (London, England) qualified for the finals in the 1500 with a time of 4:51.55.

Annmarie Tuxbury (New Hartford, Conn.) finished fourth in the 10,000 with a time of 38:29.90.

Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.) set a school record and qualified for the finals in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.38.

The 4x800 relay team of Kara Walsh (Waltham, Mass.), Brittany Sarza (Uxbridge, Mass.), Staci Rezendes (Ludlow, Mass.) and Tomasetti finished fifth with a time of 9:55.35.

Katelyn Kelleher (Wrentham, Mass.) finished sixth in the hammer throw with distance of 44.83m.

Francis Foley (Acton, Mass.) and Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.) both qualified in the 1500 with times of 4:12.52 and 4:13.56, respectively.

Christopher Chapruet (Danvers, Mass.) finished seventh in the 10,000 with a time of 33:56.33.

The men's 4x800 relay team of Daniel Donohue (New Bedford, Mass.), Landry, Thomas Mullally (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) and Foley set a school record and finished sixth with a time of 8:03.90.

John Somers (Wallingford, Conn.) and Hayes Watson (Glastonbury, Conn.) finished 5-6 in the pole vault with equal heights of 4.20m.

Nick Todman (Danbury, Conn.) finished fourth in the hammer with a throw of 50.18m. He also finished ninth in the shot put with a throw of 13.97m.
